Cabot Lodge
Henry Cabot Lodge, later a Senator from Massachusetts, a candidate for the Vice Presidency in the election of 1960, and twice Ambassador to South Vietnam, remembered his first visit to Vietnam in 1929. He was the grandson of Senator Henry Cabot Lodge of Massachusetts and a 1924 graduate of Harvard. He went to Vietnam in 1929 as a journalist.

Van Khang
During the Second World War, the French presence in Vietnam
continued although the Japanese conquered the country. During
the early years of the war, the French still ran the day-to-day
operations in Vietnam. But in 1945, the Japanese asserted
their control. Duong Van Khang described life in Vietnam
in 1945.
- Nguyen
Chi Thanh
In this interview, Nguyen Chi Thanh described the impact
of the Chinese troops who moved into the northern part of Vietnam at the end of World War II. For Thanh, the chinese were just one of a number of foreigners who invaded Vietnam over the years.
- Ton That Tung
Life under the French was not easy. In this interview, Ton That Tung remembered the hardships that Vietnamese suffered under French rule. He also pointed out that the French took care of
those Vietnamese who were useful to them. Tung played that role as well until he met a man named Nguyen Ai Quoc, who changed his life. Nguyen Ai Quoc later became famous while using another pseudonym--Ho Chi Minh.
